Dragon’s Dogma 2 has another update coming this month, bringing good tidings for anyone fretting over whether their Pawns have contracted the terrible scourge that is dragonsplague. Not only does it make the disease less appear less frequently, it also makes it easier to spot whether your Pawns are afflicted.

Dragonsplague, if you don’t know, is a mysterious illness that affects Pawns–the game’s customisable NPCs. When contracted, the illness will eventually drive the infected Pawn mad, causing them to turn violent and wreak havoc in the game’s towns and villages. You can check if a Pawn has dragonsplague by examining whether their eyes are glowing. But not only can it be hard to see a Pawn’s eyes in the game to begin with, their virtual peepers only glow intermittently anyway.

The update intends to take a three-pronged approach to adjusting players’ experience with dragonsplague. First, it is “reducing the infection frequency” of the disease, so you’ll outright have to deal with it less often. In addition, it will be “adjusting the signs of Pawns infected with dragonsplague to be more noticeable” adding “For example, when infected, glowing eyes will be more no…

Elias Toufexis, the actor behind the gravelly, world-weary voice of Deus Ex lead Adam Jensen, has bid what seems to be a final farewell to the series in a heartfelt message posted to Reddit.

Toufexis said in January, following layoffs at Eidos Montreal and the reported cancellation of a new Deus Ex game that was in the early stages of development, that he hadn’t been involved in the project and “gave up on it a long time ago.” But it seems he didn’t want that clear sense of disappointment to be his last word on the matter.

“I wanted to come on here and say thank you for this page, your wonderful messages over the years, and your continued, unbelievably strong support,” Toufexis wrote.

“As you guys all know, Jensen is one of the characters I’ve played who is near and dear to my heart. It seems I will always be associated with him and that’s just fine with me. Alas, his story seems done. I’m relatively certain the game that was canceled was not an Adam Jensen story, so the cancellation angers me more than anything else because friends at Eidos got laid off. Videogame companies right now are in a weird place. I hope it gets straightened out.”

Hades 2 released into early access earlier this month—and it’s been doing gangbusters, unsurprisingly. Supergiant has a sterling reputation behind it, with so much industry heft to every step it takes that other indie devs have already leapt out of the way of the game’s early access, considered a quasi-‘shadow drop’.

I’ve apparently already sunk close to 30 hours into this thing (I just checked the stats now, and I’m left wondering when exactly that happened). I’ve beat Chronos up enough to wonder how many lessons I have to teach an old man, and I’m pretty content with what I’ve seen so far. Supergiant, however, seems to feel it can improve the game’s baseline mechanics before it really gets cooking on new content.

“Our first patch should be coming later this month,” reads an announcement on the game’s Steam page, “though note we don’t have a more-specific timeline. With it, we’re looking for improvements we can make in the near term, in a way that makes Hades II better for everyone and come closer to realising our goals.”

The first of two changes Supergiant will take aim at the game’s resource gathering—while I’m already massively thankful fo…

Researchers at the University of Zurich have created a drone AI that was able to beat out the top human drone racers in the world (via Nature). Swift AI was able to master a course in a week, record the fastest lap times, and outperform the best drone racers from three different drone racing leagues in head-to-head races.

You might have seen drone racing on TV, an event where remote-controlled drones are flown by pilots wearing special visors with a first-person video feed from the drones’ onboard camera race through a series of LED gates. It’s chaotic, and watching little brightly colored quadcopters crash into gates never gets old.

Elia Kaufmann, one of the researchers who developed Swift AI, says its result “marks the first time that a drone powered by AI has beaten a human champion in a real physical sport designed for and by humans.”

The way it works is that Swift sends video data from the drone’s onboard camera to its neural network via an onboard module, which factors in the drone’s position, orientation, and speed. This info is then fed to a second neural network that tells the drone what to do as it approaches each racing gate.

I don’t usually cover enterprise products unless it does something really unique that impresses even me, a non-businessman. And the Philips 24B1D5600 monitor does exactly that. It’s a dual-screen monitor with a quirky feature—the second screen is essentially an e-reader. As someone who spends most of my workday sifting through emails and Google docs, I’m intrigued.

The Philips 24B1D5600 (via Tom’s Hardware) is your standard 24-inch 1440p monitor that is no different than what you’ve probably got sitting at your desk at work, except this one has a 13-inch e-paper side panel display that promises to make reading those endless PDFs and emails a lot easier on the eyes.

This monitor’s 75Hz refresh rate and 4ms response time don’t make it an ideal candidate for gaming, so it’s better suited for work than play. Although tiny 1440p gaming monitors are becoming increasingly popular, this monitor doesn’t offer the performance serious gamers would expect.

The 13.3-inch E-Paper display has a resolution of 1200 x 1600 (with a 3:4 aspect ratio) and folds in up to 45 degrees. It uses its own power independently of the main screen via USB Type-C connection. An on-s…

Some of Guilty Gear Strive’s most prominent players have found themselves unable to play the game thanks to a recent exploit that allows hackers to crash their matches remotely.

As reported by Vice, the issue gained prominence over the holiday period, with the hackers using R-Codes—a player’s unique player ID—to target pro players and streamers. It’s allowed hackers to do things like change a player’s name while they’re mid-match online, crashing them out of the game. They can also push through chat messages that look like they’re coming from the affected players, which pro player Hotashi says is causing some pretty serious memory leaks. He says it slows the game down to “an unplayable crawl,” even in training mode.

Despite streamers trying to hide their R-Code to prevent the exploit from taking place, a follow system means that if a hacker has followed a streamer or professional then they’re easily able to spot when someone is online and ruin the fun. Streamer Squirrel147 says she had to make an alt account and play offline to avoid the trouble after finding that someone was repeatedly crashing her game in late December.

The exploit will be c…

Like some kind of evil Victorian capitalist attempting to make up for a lifetime of exploitation, EA appears to have unexpectedly slashed the prices on some truly excellent RTS games immediately after making headlines for, ah, laying off 5% of its workforce. Every little helps?

Spotted by PCGamesN (and, for clarity, likely not related to those layoffs at all, I just have a bad taste in my mouth), EA seems to have wordlessly revised the prices for Command and Conquer 3 and Red Alert 3 down to practically nothing. Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars and Kane’s Wrath are now $2 (£1.89) each, as is the Red Alert 3 main game. Red Alert 3 – Uprising, meanwhile, is a mere $1.49 (£1.49).

Those price changes appear to have kicked in yesterday, March 4, per data from SteamDB, and mark a significant reduction. Both Tiberium games were $15 (£15) before the change, while the Red Alerts were each $20 (£18). But the plot thickens: A glance at the EA App by, well, several members of the PC Gamer editorial team reveals that the prices there don’t seem to have shifted. Mostly, the EA App’s prices are as they were on Steam before this reduction, …

Intel has had a tough year to date. Poor financial results and a new round of layoffs grab the headlines, but hopefully there’s some good news around the corner. Though we’ve still got a long time to go, rumors are indicating that Intel’s Meteor Lake and future generation CPUs are looking quite mighty. The integrated GPU of Meteor Lake mobile processors in particular is shaping up to have Nvidia and AMD looking over their shoulders, not to mention Apple.

The leak comes from Moore’s Law is Dead. According to the video above, the high end Meteor Lake Xe GPU with 128 Execution Units should beat out the mobile GTX 1650 and possibly even the mobile RTX 3050. If that’s the case, Intel is set to take big chunks out of Nvidia’s entry level GPU market share.

Even just matching the GTX 1650 or RTX 3050 would be a win for Intel. The reason being? Battery life. Discrete GPUs are the enemy of battery life, so if Intel is able to deliver an integrated GPU that can deliver passable 1080p gaming along with a full day of battery life, it will surely attract many design wins. If the driver is up to par, I’d definitely be interested in upgrading from my aging 8th Gen Dell.

After not quite gelling with it the first time around, I recently returned to Total War: Pharaoh, largely prompted by the very positive write up from my strategy bud, Len Hafer. She reckons, thanks to the wide-ranging Dynasties update, it’s become one of the best historical Total Wars. And it’s a fair assessment, with Dynasties effectively turning Pharaoh into Total War: Bronze Age. But soon after getting stuck into my conquest of Egypt and the Near East, I bounced off it again. The problem? It ain’t Warhammer.

This is an unexpected development. Total War’s historical settings are one of the reasons I’ve returned to the series game after game, continuing a love affair that began with 2000’s Shogun: Total War. When I was meant to be getting my Master’s Degree in Classical Studies, I instead spent most of my time in Rome: Total War, reasoning that literally conquering the world with my legions was just as good as writing essays about them.

History is my jam. I read Thucydides for pleasure. If I’m in a new place, I will always find out if there’s a castle nearby, and visit it immediately. And when I visited Rome for the first time (to actually play Total War: Rome 2),…

The quest to get Doom running on absolutely everything will never end, and this week’s entry is a cracker. Teletext will not be a familiar word to many outside of the UK, but it refers to an information system that ran on televisions in the UK from 1974 until 2012, and was also adopted by various other countries: You pressed the teletext button on the remote, up would come a ‘homepage’ of sorts, and you entered numbers to go to specific pages on, for example, news and sports. There was even a long-running and much-beloved games section called Digitiser.

A new mod converts Doom into a teletext signal, allowing you to play the id classic in spectacularly flickering and blocky glory (thanks, RPS). It can be controlled using the TV remote, which is what really seals the deal, while Doom guy’s face is replaced by a smiley face.

“Since teletext is based on unidirectional data transmission, it is not possible to actually run DOOM in teletext,” says mod creator Lukneu. “However, running the original game on some device that also generates a teletext page which holds the scene is just as fine. The packages sent by doom-teletext hold the teletext rendering of the…

Intel’s technically unified both its Arc discrete and integrated graphics drivers, meaning that all the performance boosts we’ve seen benefitting the Arc A750 and A770 (less said about the Arc A580 the better) will arrive on its new integrated GPUs around the same time.

Intel has just announced, and effectively released its new Core Ultra series of laptop chips. They represent Intel’s first chiplet architecture (tiles in its own parlance), and it includes a significant upgrade to its laptop graphical prowess. The new Meteor Lake graphics tile includes up to eight new Xe LPG cores, which puts it roughly on par with AMD’s 780M iGPU in the Ryzen 7 7840U.

It’s actually claiming a 10% average frame rate lead over the red team’s finest iGPU, but even if it’s around the same level you’re still looking at good 1080p gaming performance. And if you’re getting a thin and light laptop with actually playable frame rates then you’re going to want to stay at the cutting edge with driver updates.

Especially considering the last few Arc driver updates have added a significant extra level of gaming prowess to its GPUs. One in October delivered up to 119% higher frame rates…

Electronic Arts and Marvel Games are working on an all-new singleplayer Black Panther game at Cliffhanger Games, a new studio headed up by former Monolith Productions vice president and studio head Kevin Stephens.

“We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven videogame,” Stephens said. “Wakanda is a rich superhero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do.”

Details about the project haven’t been revealed except that it will be “an original, third-person, singleplayer” game, but EA touted the talent it’s already assembled at Cliffhanger, which includes former leadership from the outstanding Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor team and “veterans of top franchises including Halo Infinite, God of War, Call of Duty and others.” Stephens himself also has credits on NOLF, FEAR, Tron 2.0, and Condemned: Criminal Origins, which all by itself makes this a game to watch in my book.

One big question is who’s going to handl…

Who says you need to spend a lot of money on a speedy gaming monitor? Best Buy has a great deal on a 24.5-inch 1080p 240Hz gaming monitor from Lenovo for only $200.

The Lenovo Legion Y25-25 launched in 2021 for $350; it’s recently dropped to $300 in recent weeks though. It hasn’t been this cheap since Black Friday. So, if you’re not ready to drop over $1,000 on a 240Hz 1440p OLED screen just yet, you can still get the most out of your RTX GPU 30-series GPU with this budget screen,

This Lenovo IPS is designed with competitive gamers in mind. It’s got a 240Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. This means you’ll be able to enjoy some pretty smooth gameplay from all your favorite shooters, like Valorant or Call of Duty: Warzone.

While speed is everything with this monitor, you still get fairly decent picture quality with solid color reproduction (it covers 99% of the sRGB color space), which can’t be said for most competitive gaming monitors.

$300 was already a steal for this high refresh rate display; at $200, it’s more than competitive, especially if you’re putting together a nice budget PC build or looking to pair this with one of the best gaming …

I guess it’s gonna be a while until we see a Steam page for Horizon Forbidden West. In a chat with Famitsu (spotted by TheGamer and machine translated), PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has reaffirmed Sony’s commitment to keeping its exclusives off of PC until PlayStation fans have had their day with them.

Sony “fully understand[s] the importance of PS5 exclusive titles,” Ryan told Famitsu, saying that “PlayStation Studios’ main responsibility is to have people enjoy the game experience using the latest PlayStation”. To that effect, Ryan said Sony is committed to (excuse the awkwardness of the machine translation) “increasing the number of PS5-exclusive titles and staggering the release of the PC version”.

How long will those PC versions be staggered, you ask? Well, Ryan didn’t give a firm timespan exactly, but he did mention that discussions with PlayStation fans suggest that “selling the PC version two or three years after the release of the PS version is accepted favorably”. So don’t go thinking Sony is gonna start picking up the pace of its PC releases just because The Last of Us Part 1 came out on PC a mere six-ish months after it hit PS5. Given the state of that port,…

Accessible controllers have got to be some of the coolest innovations coming to the gaming world, whether fully integrated award-winning systems like Microsoft’s Xbox Adaptive controllers or DIY efforts that are getting 3D-printed parts to gamers who need them. Gaming for everyone is an initiative that’s gaining strength, and it’s exciting to see another big player like Sony join the ranks.

The electronics giant just announced its own accessible controller setup, Project Leonardo. This newly developed interface is only listed as coming for PS5, which makes sense as that’s where most of Sony’s gaming interest lies.

However, we’re seeing great Sony games make their way to PC gaming, and maybe even a PC game launcher. Despite Sony’s vaguenes regarding its future PC gaming plans, if we can get the wonderful new DualSense working on a PC, we’re fairly confident the Leonardo will become compatible with PCs.

Based on what we’ve seen so far, much like its namesake in the TMNT, this Leonardo looks like a turtle. It has a circular back large keys can be placed around, and a turtle-like head pokes out for a joystick style controller. Most of this seems like it can b…
