In the United Kingdom and Gambling Commission regulator has reportedly announced that it is ‘disappointed’ by yesterday’s Appeals Court decision that reversed a late-June ruling from the High Court.

According to a report from a source, the authority was taken to court by Camelot Group and this firm’s technology partner, International Game Technology (IGT), after it decided to award the next ten-year National Lottery operating license to the Allwyn UK subsidiary of European lotteries giant Sazka Group. Dragon Age: The Veilguard will soon be available to play around the world and while it lacks the narrative depth of its forefathers, it’s still a rollicking blast to play. The combat is nice and weighty, and you’ll have endless fun just going around whacking everyone with a ruddy big hammer. But no matter what hardware you have in your gaming PC and what graphics options you want to use, there are three graphics settings that you really should disable before jumping in.

And without further ado, they are depth of field, motion blur, and vignette. The former, by default, is used in cutscenes to simulate a camera focusing on the main subject, leaving peripherals objects out of focus.

However, it just applies a blur filter to said objects and it’s not very convincing. Fortunately, it’s used quite sparingly, as you can see in the images below. The first shows the use of DoF, and the second with it disabled.

Five years after Valve kicked off the first Steam Game Festival—now known as Steam Next Fest—the company is making changes to how it handles demos. In short, it’s making them less of a chore to sniff out and deal with in your library.

In a blog post released yesterday, Valve announced that it was making changes to how it handles its appetisers based on “trends in feedback from both developers and players about the process and functionality.”

First up, adding a demo to your Steam library no longer means having to immediately install it (or, in my case at least, having to close the tab that pops up asking you to install Steam after you hit the play button to get the demo). Like any of Steam’s legion of free-to-play games, demos now have a handy “Add to Library” button to tuck them away in your games list without an immediate prompt to install. You can also now install demos for games you already own, if you just want the narcotic rush of a game’s most audience-enticing parts.

Making waves at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics is a “Pride House” on a boat on the Seine river, set to open on July 26 when the games begin. There, LGBTQ+ fans and Olympic athletes can eat, drink, and watch LGBTQ+ athletes compete in the Olympics.

Pride House also provides a safe space for athletes who may come from countries with anti-gay laws. “Nobody has to hide who they are,” says Jérémy Goupille, co-president of Fier Play, one of the Paris Pride House organizers.

The Paris effort is the first time that the International Olympic Committee is backing a Pride House. So-called official “Pride Houses” can be only found at large-scale global sporting events. They are modeled after the hospitality houses that countries host at the Olympic games. Pride House International partners with organizations where there is a major global sporting event and helps them set up their own Pride Houses. Twenty-five Pride Houses in 16 countries have attracted more than 50,000 visitors.
